How do I take an Amateur Radio exam?

AD0VR conducts regular sessions for the administration of Amateur Radio exams. Each examiner is a certified Volunteer Examiner by the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL), and is trained to help facilitate your exam experience.

Practice: The license examinations are by no means easy! Make sure you spend time getting to know the material. If you’re looking for practice resources, click here to check out our Resources page!

Preparation: A testing fee of $15 is required (cash/check). Please plan to bring a valid photo ID, two pencils with erasers, as well as an ink pen. You may also bring a calculator, though you will be asked to demonstrate to an examiner that the calculator’s memory is clear. Be ready to provide your FCC FRN, and if you are testing for an upgrade you must also bring a current valid license or a valid CSCE. Cell phones and smartphones are not permitted in the examination area.

Exam Location: All exams, unless otherwise specified in the posted notice, are held at 29500 Center Ridge Road in Westlake Ohio. Parking is behind the building, enter through the blue door. Click here for directions.
